Manicure, Pedicure, Hairdressing, and Massage in the Philippines

Hi all, it’s me Asti again, a Russian beauty studying in the Philippines.

I wonder if there’s anyone who would like to wander around SPA and beauty salons to maintain our beauty as much as I do.

I’m not gonna lie. I, like most of you, were very worried about the quality of the beauty shops when I first flied to the Philippines. I heard and read that most beauty shops are catered for Asians. Their beauty standard is so different from us and may not be good looking by our Russian perspective.

Ready? I’m going to share with you my salon patronizing experience in the Philippines. First hand account!

My first trial was to use my fingers as the testing ground. I search for the beauty salon where they provide quality manicure services. Actually, you will see a lot of beauty shops providing manicure service along the street. However, I’m not ready to easily entrust my hands to those salon experts without further re-assurance of their quality.

Manicure and pedicure services are super cheap in the first glance. Along the street, you will see many shops providing the services for simply 150 – 250 peso (~USD 3-5). Don’t be so excited over the low cost yet! There are big minuses because of the low price they charge. They use very rough tools and most of the time do not sterilize them before using it on another customer. To find a salon with high-quality standard is not easy, and certainly come at a very different price tag as well! Guess what? A manicure with the sterilized tools and a covering gel will cost you over 1000 peso (~USD 20) and up. That’s the price you have to pay for a clean service! And of course if you want to do some art work on your nails using some stones and diamond in the design that’s another premium price!

The shop I visited for the manicure with the sterilized tool is – Beauty CClim

As for pedicure service, I would really recommend the Korean beauty shops. In particular the shop Beauty CClim  The Korean masters are simply amazing. They can replicate any design you show them from the internet on your nails with such accuracy. In the same salon you can also do eyelashes extension. You can select any extension length or density you would like to. Also it is possible to do face cleansing using their specialized tools. Eyelash extension costs approximately from 1000 – 2000 peso (~USD 20-40). The shops is located in the Mactan town with there’s a high concentration of Koreans residing here. It is possible to reach this shop from school by a taxi and motorbikes. Just take it as a day trip for beauty!

As for hair coloring services or cutting your hair, it’s better to stick with some famous local hairdressers such as Loreal and Matriks. They maintain the quality of their haird dressing services on par with the international standard. Hair coloring and hair dressing will cost to you approximately 1200 peso (~USD 24) in these salons. Of course, it is possible to save some money and visit the local salons which will do the same coloring for 600 peso (~USD 12) nearby. That is, if you want to take your chance.

If you are interested in more exotic hairdressing such as weaving for the African braids, you can certainly find it in Cebu too. And the shop Afrique-Lassie Hair Exten is very close to 3D Academy. It’s near IT park where the most staffs working there are from Nigeria. For an African braids haircut, it would cost you from 2500 peso (~USD 50). And for 4000 peso (~USD 80), they would provide maintenance of your braids for up to 1 month. The shop is close enough. You could simply take a jeepney for 10 peso (~USD 0.20), or by a taxi 100 (~USD 2) to reach there.

And finally, I am going to share with you the most exciting part – Massage in the Philippines. It’s one of the best and cheapest place in the world if you want to indulge yourself in the relaxing massage therapist. There are so many massage shops along the street beside the school, providing the services from 200 pesos to 1500 pesos per hour. (USD 4 to USD 30). At first, I had the same suspicion as you do. I only went to the expensive massage shops worrying that the cheap massae shop will provide bad massage and injure me in the process. Surprised! Surprised! Surprised! I gotta emphasize this because I was sooooo wrong!! It’s the exact opposite. There are many good massage therapists providing excellent services in the cheap massage shops. So instead of spending high starting rate in the expensive massage shop, you could simply go and test out in the cheap ones. If it’s good, save the money for another hour of indulgence and tips later! Also a big tips: if you go to massage in the early morning, most likely they will give you 50% discount for the same service. You are welcome!

That’s it for everyone who would like to maintain their beauty in the tropical country of the Philippines. In the following post I will share with you on how to send a parcel or documents to other countries from here.

Thank you for reading. See you again.
