6 tips about how to overcome Losing Motivation

Tired? Losing Motivation? This post will show you on how to overcome it. Read on.

Hello guys, This is Kevin from Korea. I have stayed in Cebu for around 1 year. Right now, I am studying English in 3D Academy. From beginning to now, I had witnessed some friends losing their motivation after taking English classes for awhile. You can easily spot those students who have lost their motivation. They are usually absent from classes and just take a sleep wherever and whenever everyday.

I began wondering, when they first decided to study English abroad, they must have big dream and passion. However, English study is not something that can be done in a short period of time. It takes a lot of patience. Some people lost their motivation along the way. In fact, it happens more frequently than you thought. Especially when you are overseas, you are alone. You will feel lazy sometimes and started procrastinating. It happened to me as well. Today, I want to share about my experience on how I overcome this crisis.

1. Set Goals again

There is a saying: A decision made is half way from success. Once you have made decision to overcome the slump in motivation, your problem is 50% solved. First, to strengthen your will to overcome the problem, try recalling your goals if you had one. If not, try to set your goals again. Don’t set just 1 goal. Setting both long term and short-term goals will help you to keep the end in sight for your English study journey. Just be sure that your goals are both realistic and challenging so that you are meeting them and getting the full benefit of them!

2. Create your perfect study space

It is amazing what the environment around you can do to for your mental state. Housekeeper clean the room twice a week but they only clean the room, not your study space. Organizing your desk so that everything you need is within reach is a great way to get a head start on your study session. If your study space is in your room, pick up a little! The act of picking up your daily clutter (we all have at least a little) will help you to declutter your mind a be prepared to crack the books.

3. Set a schedule

Set a study schedule (like a time of the week or the day) to study. It’s a great way to keep procrastination out of your daily life. By setting aside a certain of time, you will not only ensure that you have enough time to complete your assignments and study for your exams, you’ll also begin to make studying a normal part of your daily routine.

4. Just DO it!

The hardest part of pretty much anything is starting. But no matter how much you hate math or history or doing something, it’s usually not so bad once you have gotten started. Set yourself a goal of studying for a solid 15-20 minutes without a break and see how you feel when the time is up. Chances are, you’ll be able to commit to another 15-20 minutes.

5. Write down how you feel after

This may sound strange, but you know how great you feel when you hit a big goal or finally finish that big paper? Writing down how good you feel after completing a tough task can work as great motivation the next time you’re having trouble getting started. Keep a notebook in your backpack and write down your triumphs. That way, each time you need a little extra push, you’ve got a whole book full of success!

6. Get enough sleep

It is very natural. In my case, when I studied here, I often drank with friends or talk or using phone and then stayed up all night many times. It caused insomnia and it was getting me into a slump in mood after awhile. According to research while sleep requirements vary slightly from person to person, most healthy adults need between 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night to function at their best. Cebu’s hot weather easily make us feel tired. So It is very important to sleep enough.

 6. Find Kevin (Or any friend)

If you feel hard to do or overcome it by yourself, you could make motivation with your friends. But they can not take care of you and It’s not their duty. Sharing your problems with friends is good, but depending on them to solve the problem for you is not. If you need to someone to consult and sharing your concern you can always talk to me. Or if you feel so hard to wake up early morning I can wake you up or give you a call. I’m always ready to help you
