Everything about Cebu

8 good places to travel in Cebu, Philippines.

For most Chinese people, they only know Manila or Boracay when you talk about the Philippines! In fact, the second largest city, Cebu is like a paradise. Today, I will introduce 8 good places to travel in Cebu, Philippines.

No. 1 – Magellan’s Cross

It is said that the giant cross was built by Magellan in 1521 to commemorate the birth of the first Filipino Christian. People in Cebu believe that the cross has the sacred power. They believe that cutting the cross into crumbs has the power to cure all diseases.

No. 2 – Kawasan Falls

Kawasan Falls is one of the beautiful waterfalls in the world. It would be a waste of air tickets if you didn’t take a trip here from Cebu City! The sound of the water is like thunder, and the momentum is like a galloping horse. Only one word can describe the place here – Spectacular! The river is running clear and blue. The water is so clear that you can see the bottom of the river like from a glass of clear water. If you look into it, you will find some  strange rocks at the bottom of the river.

You can take a canoe or a bamboo raft to go upstream along the canyon and enjoy the tropical ancient trees and blooming orchids on the cliffs on both sides, as well as large and small waterfalls. On the return journey, the boat slumped down in the shoal, and the scenery on both sides of the bank passed by, which was very exciting.

No. 3 – Island hopping to Bohol

Bohol offers the best diving spot among the 7000 islands in the Philippines! To me, Bohol is more beautiful than Boracay. The sea is clear. The seabed is rich in color, and you can go out to see dolphins! For whoever that want to see dolphins, remember to get up early as they only appear early in the morning. The groups of dolphins that appear onshore can definitely shock you. I heard that you can see hundreds of them at once~!

The Chocolate Hills are made up of 268 conical hills with a height between 40 and 120 meters. Every summer, the “haystack” dries up and turns brown, like rows of chocolates laid out on the ground. This is how the name Chocolate Mountain comes from.

Over time, Bohol is getting more and more famous as the words got spread out. Many Harry Potter fans come here as well as some scenes in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was shot in Bohol! Surprise!

Beside the natural scenery, another must-see in Bohol is the Tarsier, dubbed the smallest monkey in the world. It is not a real monkey but belong to the same primate family. The smallest primate in the world is a local inhabitant in this island. As they are endangered animal, exercise caution when you do go and visit them.

No. 4 – Malapascua Island

The white sand beach and crystal clear blue water are the landmark of Malapascua. They are not as well developed as Boracay for tourism. You get to enjoy the island in peace without the tourists. This is a paradise for scuba divers, swimmers and snorkelers. The divers are in for a treat of thresher sharks with a long-handled half-tail. Few tourists, beautiful sea, beautiful beaches, simple islanders, beautiful sunrise and sunset, it is one of the attractions worth visiting..

No. 5 – Carbon Market

Kabang Market, also known as Karben Market or Carbon Market, is one of the largest markets in Cebu City. It is known as the backstreet of Cebu. There are many snack bars that locals like, and the prices are extremely low. Come here and eat your heart out!

No. 6 – Basilica Minore de Santo Nino

The Philippines is a Catholic country. Since you are here, you can go to Mass like the locals. Listening to a Mass quietly. You can feel the impetuous heart slowly calm down.

As long as you walk behind Magellan’s cross and pass through the arched doorway, you can see this church with a gray-white exterior. It has more than 200 years history. Moreover, there is also a wishing pool. The locals believe that it can cure all diseases!

No. 7 – Oslob Island

Another main attraction in Cebu. You definitely can’t miss swimming with whale shark when you are here and Oslob is the place to be. Whale Shark is the largest mammal living in the bottom of the sea. You can swim with them and feel the shock! The locals feed the whale shark and hence they will come near the shore every morning. This is the most important thing for the tourists – you can be guaranteed meet with Whale shark! Some animal activists disagree with the action of feeding the wilds but that’s another story.

No. 8 – Colon Street

Colon street is one of the oldest streets in the Philippines! It was built in the 16th century and it was named in memory of the navigator Columbus. This road is located in the heart of the city. It is a bustling business district during the day and transformed into a lively entertainment center at night. It can be said to be a paradise for backpackers.

To me, coming to Cebu city is the best decision in my life. Walking in this island, you can feel the ancient history of the land, meet the adorable dolphins that would melt your heart, get close to the cute big-eyed monkeys, swim with the world’s largest underwater animals, and many more. Come to Cebu and you will find yourself in for a special and exotic treat!
