Anxiety is a tricky feeling. Sometimes people have panic attacks and can’t trace the source of them. It can be frustrating to understand why you’re feeling this way. Here’s some reasons why you could experience anxiety and what you can do to cope.
Some people have anxiety disorders in their family. Maybe one or both of your parents lives with anxiety. Perhaps it’s further down the family tree. Regardless of where in your genetics it is, it’s crucial to recognize that your genes play a role in these issues. You may be frustrated or resentful that anxiety is in your familial genes, but there’s nothing you can do to change this. There’s no point in blaming your parents for what you cannot control. What you can do is learn ways to cope with anxious feelings.
Traumatic experiences can cause panic attacks, nightmares, or chronic anxiety. It’s natural that you feel anxious when you’re triggered by something that reminds you of your trauma. Maybe you experienced an assault, and you can’t go to a specific neighborhood because it reminds you of that trauma. Perhaps there are words that remind you of something you’ve experienced, and it causes you anxiety to hear them. Trauma can have a severe impact on your mental state.
