Hello! We\u2019re the staff at 3D ACADEMY.<\/p>\n

Today, we\u2019d like to share the inspiring story of Mizuki, who chose our one-on-one course in Cebu, Philippines. Despite her initial fear of not being able to speak English, she overcame her anxiety and created a study abroad experience that truly suited her.<\/p>\n

What sparked her interest in studying abroad? It all began with her sister\u2019s study abroad experience in Toronto.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cMy sister looked so bright and full of life. I thought, someday I want to challenge myself overseas too.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

However, when she actually started thinking seriously about going abroad, a wave of worries followed\u2014her English skills, the cost, safety, her personality…<\/p>\n

Still, Mizuki searched for a \u201csmall step\u201d that would fit her needs. That\u2019s when she discovered 3D ACADEMY, which offers one-on-one classes, and decided to head to Cebu.<\/p>\n

In this article, we\u2019ll dive into Mizuki\u2019s study abroad journey\u2014sharing her real experiences and honest reflections!<\/p>\n

Learning at Her Own Pace\uff5cMizuki\u2019s \u201cImitate and Speak\u201d English Lesson Style<\/strong><\/h2>\n

One-on-One Only: Finding the Style That Fits<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mizuki chose one-on-one lessons exclusively, rather than joining group classes. This approach perfectly matched her personality, allowing her to develop a study method that truly suited her.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt first, English lessons can make you feel like you have to speak as much as possible right away. But for me, whenever the teacher said a phrase that I thought, \u2018Hey, that\u2019s useful!\u2019 I would immediately try to imitate it out loud.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In the beginning, Mizuki struggled to find the right words. But by mimicking her teacher\u2019s phrases exactly as they were spoken, she gradually picked up more natural-sounding English.<\/p>\n

For example, when her teacher said, \u201cThat makes sense,\u201d<\/em> during a lesson, Mizuki thought, \u201cThis phrase is super useful in conversation!\u201d\u2014and began using it right away herself.<\/p>\n

Controlling Homework and Preparation at Her Own Pace<\/strong><\/h3>\n

At 3D ACADEMY, many classes come with assigned homework and preparation tasks, which helps students build a solid review habit.<\/p>\n

In the beginning, Mizuki diligently completed every assignment, thinking she had to do everything perfectly.<\/p>\n

But then she came to an important realization:<\/p>\n

\u201cEven if I try to do everything every day, there are times when my heart just isn\u2019t in it. Forcing myself to push through doesn\u2019t help\u2014it doesn\u2019t stick in my head, and I don\u2019t enjoy the lesson either.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

From then on, she began adjusting her approach\u2014sometimes telling her teacher, \u201cI\u2019d like to skip homework today,\u201d or giving herself permission to take it easy when she wasn\u2019t feeling motivated.<\/p>\n

Of course, this didn\u2019t mean she was slacking off\u2014it was more about creating a healthy balance: doing her best when she could, and allowing space when needed.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn days when I review properly before class, the lesson flows really smoothly. So I can clearly see the difference when I don\u2019t prepare. That\u2019s why it\u2019s important to ask myself, \u2018What do I want to do today?\u2019 and decide based on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Honest Communication Made Possible by One-on-One Lessons<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Admitting to your teacher that you didn\u2019t do your homework can feel intimidating.<\/p>\n

But for Mizuki, it was actually a turning point.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cBecause it\u2019s one-on-one, the teacher and I built a close relationship. They understood my personality and energy level. Being honest actually improved our communication.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Some days, it\u2019s okay to rest. Other days, it\u2019s time to focus. That\u2019s how Mizuki was able to transform \u201cstudying English\u201d from an obligation into something she genuinely looked forward to<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Feeling the Progress\uff5cOvercoming the First Month of Nerves<\/strong><\/h2>\n

From Silence to Self-Expression<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mizuki says her first month was filled with anxiety. During class, she was constantly worried:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat if I can\u2019t express myself properly to the teacher?\u201d
\u201cWhat if I can\u2019t answer their questions? That would be so embarrassing\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But now, she can confidently say things like \u201cI don\u2019t want to do homework today\u201d<\/em>\u2014clearly and assertively in English. That alone is a huge transformation.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cBeing able to express how I feel in English\u2014that\u2019s a real achievement. The old me would\u2019ve just followed instructions without saying a word.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This isn\u2019t about being selfish. It\u2019s about understanding her own learning style and emotional state, and finding the most effective way to study.<\/p>\n

\u270d\ufe0f \u201cNow I Can Write Down the Words I Hear\u201d\uff5cBuilding the Basics<\/strong><\/h3>\n

For many beginners, listening and writing in English are particularly tough skills to master.<\/p>\n

Mizuki recalls that in the beginning, even when she could hear the words her teacher said, she couldn\u2019t write them down properly.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI thought I heard it right, but I didn\u2019t know the spelling\u2026 or I wasn\u2019t even sure what I\u2019d heard.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But now, she can smoothly jot down words as she hears them. That\u2019s a clear sign her listening and vocabulary have improved.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can take notes faster during lessons now, and I feel like I\u2019m gradually getting used to \u2018thinking in English.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She also mentioned that lately, her eyes naturally go to English signs and billboards in town\u2014and she finds herself trying to understand them.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore, I never paid attention. But now I catch myself thinking, \u2018Oh, that word came up in class!\u2019 and it makes me smile.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

From Single Words to Full Sentences\uff5cSmall Changes That Add Up<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In the beginning, Mizuki could only string together basic words when speaking English.<\/p>\n

But thanks to the steady practice and support of her teachers, she gradually became able to speak in full sentences.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cAt first, it was like\u2026 \u2018Go\u2026 eat\u2026 food\u2026\u2019\u2014so broken it made me laugh at myself. But my teacher would always say, \u2018Here\u2019s how you say it properly,\u2019 and I would repeat the correct sentence again and again. Eventually, I started to speak in full sentences naturally.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The ability to recall and use complete phrases in conversation is a huge step forward\u2014and one of the biggest advantages of one-on-one lessons.<\/p>\n

\n

How Mizuki Uses Her Textbooks\uff5cWhy She Prefers to Buy Instead of Copy<\/strong><\/h3>\n

When asked, \u201cDo you use textbooks?\u201d Mizuki didn\u2019t hesitate:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cYes, definitely. I\u2019ve bought four so far\u2014and already finished two.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

While the school does offer the option to copy some materials, Mizuki chose to buy hers from the start.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cMaking copies is kind of a hassle, and loose pages annoy me. I prefer to have the whole book in one neat bundle. So I just bought what I needed.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Having organized textbooks makes it easier to review and prepare, and helps lessons flow more smoothly.<\/p>\n

And now, those well-used books have become proof of her personal growth.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cEach time I finish a book, I feel proud. And when I flip through the pages later and realize I understand more than before\u2014it makes me really happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Weekend Refreshers at Malls and Beaches\uff5cExperiencing Rural Life in the Philippines<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A Much-Needed Break from Busy Weekdays<\/strong><\/h3>\n

While weekdays were packed with lessons, weekends became Mizuki\u2019s precious time to recharge. But it wasn\u2019t just about having fun\u2014she used the time to explore different cultures, enjoy new scenery, and apply her English in real-life settings.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI often went to the mall with friends. We\u2019d go shopping, chat at cafes\u2026 It felt familiar, like being in Japan, and that made me feel relaxed and comfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

One particularly memorable weekend experience was a short trip with her teacher to the teacher\u2019s hometown\u2014Bantayan Island, in northern Philippines.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cBantayan Island had the most beautiful beach I\u2019ve ever seen. The color of the sea, the blue of the sky\u2014it was like something out of a dream. You just don\u2019t get that kind of view in Japan.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But it wasn\u2019t just the scenery that left an impression\u2014she also got to experience rural life up close.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI stayed at my teacher\u2019s family home. The toilet had to be flushed with a bucket of water, there was no hot shower, and the internet didn\u2019t work at all. It was a bit overwhelming at first.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Through that experience, she gained a new appreciation for the comfortable lifestyle she enjoyed at 3D ACADEMY.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the dorm, we have air conditioning, working internet, and proper toilets! I didn\u2019t realize how lucky I was until I went to the countryside.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Even her weekend travels became valuable lessons\u2014teaching her not only about the country but about gratitude and resilience.<\/p>\n

\n

What I Wish I\u2019d Prepared Before Coming\uff5cVocabulary & Health Care Tips<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Build Your Vocabulary Before You Go<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Although Mizuki adapted quickly to life at 3D ACADEMY, there were still a few things she wishes she had prepared more thoroughly in advance.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI wish I had memorized more vocabulary. When you don\u2019t know enough words, it limits your speaking and writing abilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

While she learned a lot during her classes, she realized that having a basic vocabulary in place would have made her first month much smoother.<\/p>\n

She especially recommends brushing up on junior high to high school level vocabulary<\/strong>, as it helps with listening comprehension and reduces the stress of everyday conversation.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re not confident in English, at least go through one vocabulary book before you leave\u2014it\u2019ll make everything so much easier!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Supplements as a \u201cSafety Net\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Another important tip from Mizuki is about staying healthy.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cA change in environment can easily affect your body, so I\u2019m glad I brought supplements. I took vitamins and probiotics every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

With unfamiliar food and Cebu\u2019s hot climate, it\u2019s easy to feel worn out. Having a health routine helped her maintain both energy and focus during her stay.<\/p>\n

\u270f\ufe0f Final Thoughts\uff5cHow English Helped Me Grow Out of My Shell<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Throughout the interview, Mizuki spoke with a warm smile and calm confidence. Although she described herself as \u201creally shy,\u201d the staff didn\u2019t get that impression at all.<\/p>\n

It was clear that her ability to express herself in English had given her a newfound sense of confidence.<\/p>\n

Seven hours of class per day. A nerve-racking first month. Slowly writing down words. Gradually forming full sentences.<\/p>\n

Each step was part of a steady journey of growth.<\/p>\n

And now, Mizuki is preparing for the next chapter: a step-up study abroad in Canada. Just like her sister before her, she\u2019s ready to discover a new path in a new country.<\/p>\n
