Resposta-modelo

The line graph illustrates the number of students from Japan, Korea, and Taiwan who participated in IELTS preparation courses in Cebu between 2010 and 2020.

Overall, it is clear that the figure for Japan rose dramatically throughout the period, eventually becoming the largest group by a wide margin. In contrast, the number of Korean students showed a gradual decline, while Taiwan experienced steady but moderate growth.

In 2010, Korean students were the dominant group, with around 400 participants, compared with 300 from Japan and fewer than 200 from Taiwan. Over the following five years, the number of Japanese learners increased rapidly, reaching more than 600 by 2015, thereby surpassing Korea, which recorded about 500. Taiwan also saw a gradual rise to approximately 300.

By the end of the period, Japanese students had more than doubled their presence, climbing to nearly 1,000 in 2020. Meanwhile, the Korean figure slipped slightly to around 350, and Taiwan continued its upward trend to nearly 500. These patterns suggest that Cebu became an increasingly popular destination for Japanese and Taiwanese learners seeking intensive IELTS preparation, while Korea’s interest weakened somewhat over time.

The pie charts illustrate the proportion of students from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and other countries who enrolled in IELTS preparation courses in Cebu in 2020.

Overall, Japanese learners accounted for the largest share, while the group categorized as “others” represented the smallest. The data also suggest that Cebu has become particularly attractive to East Asian students.

According to the figures, Japanese students made up almost half of the total, at around 48%. This indicates a significant demand from Japan, reflecting the growing popularity of Cebu as an affordable yet effective IELTS study destination. Korean learners represented about 28%, which was considerably lower than Japan’s figure but still a notable portion.

Meanwhile, students from Taiwan constituted approximately 15% of the total. Although their share was smaller compared with Japan and Korea, this percentage shows a steady rise compared with previous years. Finally, only 9% of participants came from other countries, such as Vietnam, Thailand, and the Middle East, suggesting that Cebu’s IELTS market is still largely dominated by East Asian nations.

The bar chart shows the average monthly expenses of international students studying IELTS in Cebu in 2024, divided into four categories: tuition, accommodation, food, and leisure.

Resposta-modelo

The bar chart illustrates the average monthly spending of international students in Cebu on four categories in 2024: tuition, accommodation, food, and leisure.

Overall, tuition fees accounted for the largest portion of expenses, while leisure activities required the least. Accommodation and food also represented significant but smaller shares.

According to the chart, tuition fees were by far the highest cost, averaging around $600 per month. Accommodation ranked second at approximately $400, followed closely by food at about $350. This indicates that most students allocated the majority of their budgets to core necessities related to studying and living.

By contrast, leisure expenses were considerably lower, at just $150 monthly on average. This suggests that international students in Cebu tend to spend more conservatively on entertainment compared with essential items. The figures highlight that, although Cebu is known for its affordability, tuition and housing remain the dominant financial concerns for learners.

In summary, the chart demonstrates that students’ monthly spending in Cebu is heavily weighted toward tuition and accommodation, with relatively little spent on leisure.

Resposta-modelo

The table presents the average IELTS scores achieved by students from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam who studied in Cebu in 2023, across four skill areas: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.

Overall, Taiwanese students achieved the highest scores across most skills, while Japanese learners recorded the lowest, particularly in Writing. Among the four skills, Listening consistently had the best results, whereas Writing was the weakest area for nearly all groups.

According to the table, Taiwanese students performed strongly, scoring 7.2 in Listening and 7.0 in Reading. Korean learners also did relatively well, especially in Listening with an average of 7.0. Japanese students, by contrast, obtained only 6.3 in Writing, which was the lowest figure in the table. Meanwhile, Vietnamese students achieved balanced scores, all close to 6.8.

In conclusion, the data indicate that students in Cebu generally perform better in receptive skills such as Listening and Reading, while Writing remains the most challenging skill, particularly for Japanese learners.

Exemplo de questão

The maps below show the layout of an English language school in Cebu in 2010 and 2020.

Resposta-modelo

The two maps illustrate the changes made to an English language school in Cebu between 2010 and 2020.

Overall, the school underwent significant redevelopment, with more classrooms and student facilities being added, while outdoor space was reduced.

In 2010, the school consisted of a main building containing three classrooms, a small library, and an administrative office. To the south of the building, there was a large garden area, and a small cafeteria was located in the northwest corner.

By 2020, the campus had been considerably expanded. The garden was replaced with two additional classroom blocks, increasing the school’s teaching capacity. The cafeteria was relocated to the center of the campus and enlarged to accommodate more students. Furthermore, the library was modernized into a resource center with computer access, reflecting the growing demand for digital learning. A dormitory was also built in the eastern part of the site, allowing international students to live on campus.

In summary, the language school in Cebu was transformed over the decade into a more modern and student-focused facility, with greater emphasis on accommodation and digital resources.

Explicação dos pontos

Exemplo de questão

The diagram shows the process of how international students enroll in an IELTS preparation course at a language school in Cebu.

Resposta-modelo

The diagram illustrates the steps involved in enrolling in an IELTS preparation course at a Cebu language school, from application to the start of classes.

Overall, the process consists of five main stages, beginning with the submission of an online application and ending with students attending their first lesson.

Initially, students complete an online application form and upload the required documents, such as a passport copy. Once the application is reviewed, they receive an official acceptance letter from the school. The next stage involves paying tuition fees, which can be done via bank transfer or credit card.

After payment, students are asked to take a placement test to determine their current English level. This ensures that they are placed in the most suitable class, whether beginner, intermediate, or advanced. Finally, once the test results are confirmed, students are assigned to a teacher and begin their IELTS preparation lessons.

In conclusion, the enrollment process in Cebu follows a clear sequence of application, confirmation, payment, placement, and commencement of classes.

Resposta-modelo da Task 2 do IELTS Writing (aproximadamente 272 palavras)

Exemplo de questão

Some people believe that studying abroad, such as in Cebu, offers more advantages than studying in one’s own country. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Resposta-modelo

Studying abroad has become increasingly popular in recent years, and Cebu in the Philippines is now considered one of the top destinations for international learners, especially those preparing for IELTS. While it is true that studying domestically has certain benefits, such as lower cost and familiarity, I strongly believe that the advantages of overseas education far outweigh the drawbacks.

The most significant benefit of studying abroad is the immersive environment. In Cebu, students are exposed to English both inside and outside the classroom. They practice writing essays during lessons, but also apply the language in daily life, such as ordering food, speaking with taxi drivers, or joining local activities. This constant exposure accelerates progress and builds confidence, which is often difficult to achieve when studying in one’s home country.

Another advantage is the development of independence and global awareness. For instance, Japanese students in Cebu learn to manage their own budgets, adapt to cultural differences, and collaborate with classmates from Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam. These experiences not only enhance their IELTS performance but also prepare them for future academic or professional challenges in international environments.

Of course, studying abroad can be expensive and sometimes stressful. However, the long-term benefits—such as improved English proficiency, adaptability, and a broader worldview—clearly outweigh these disadvantages.

In conclusion, while domestic study is more affordable and comfortable, I firmly believe that studying in Cebu offers superior opportunities for personal growth and academic success.

Explicação dos pontos

  • Deixar clara a posição na introdução (I strongly believe)
  • Abordar a opinião contrária e refutá-la → mostrar equilíbrio
  • Reforçar novamente sua opinião na conclusão

Resposta-modelo da Task 2 do IELTS Writing (aproximadamente 281 palavras)

Exemplo de questão

Some people think that technology will replace traditional classrooms in the future, while others believe face-to-face learning, such as studying abroad in Cebu, will remain essential. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Resposta-modelo

With the rapid advancement of technology, online education has become increasingly common. Some argue that digital platforms will eventually replace traditional classrooms, while others insist that face-to-face learning, particularly in study-abroad destinations like Cebu, will continue to play an essential role. In my opinion, although technology can greatly support education, in-person learning remains irreplaceable.

On the one hand, online learning offers remarkable flexibility and accessibility. Students can attend classes from any location, saving both time and money. For instance, IELTS candidates can now take writing lessons through video calls, receive instant feedback, and access a wide range of practice materials. Moreover, technology allows learners to study at their own pace, which is particularly beneficial for busy professionals.

On the other hand, face-to-face education provides interaction and immersion that online platforms cannot fully replicate. Students in Cebu, for example, benefit from one-on-one lessons with teachers, immediate correction of mistakes, and opportunities to practice English in real-life situations. Beyond academics, they also experience cultural exchange, build friendships, and develop independence—all of which contribute to holistic personal growth.

In my view, technology should complement rather than replace classroom learning. Online resources are valuable tools, but studying abroad in Cebu demonstrates that direct human interaction, cultural immersion, and real-time feedback are indispensable for achieving lasting improvement in English skills.

In conclusion, while online education will continue to expand, traditional learning abroad will remain crucial, especially for language acquisition and personal development.

Some people believe that international students, such as those who study in Cebu, should focus mainly on academic subjects, while others argue they should also be responsible for environmental protection in the host country. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Resposta-modelo

In recent years, the number of international students has increased, with Cebu in the Philippines becoming a popular destination. While some argue that these students should devote themselves exclusively to academic pursuits, others believe they also have a responsibility to support environmental protection in their host communities. In my opinion, although academics should be the priority, contributing to sustainability is equally important.

On the one hand, the primary purpose of studying abroad is education. Students often invest significant time and money to improve their English skills or prepare for exams such as IELTS. For example, those who come to Cebu usually take intensive courses, with daily writing and speaking practice. Given the limited period of stay, it is reasonable for learners to focus on maximizing their academic progress rather than being burdened with additional responsibilities.

On the other hand, studying abroad also means becoming part of a local community, even temporarily. Environmental problems such as plastic waste and marine pollution are pressing issues in Cebu. If international students participate in activities like beach clean-ups or recycling programs, they not only help the environment but also gain cultural experience and foster stronger connections with local people. Such involvement enriches their stay abroad and promotes global citizenship.

In conclusion, international students should primarily concentrate on their academic goals, but they should also contribute to environmental protection whenever possible. This balance ensures both personal development and positive impact on the host country.

Some people prefer studying in large cities, while others think smaller towns provide a better learning environment. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Resposta-modelo

When choosing a place to study, some learners believe that large cities are the best option, while others argue that smaller towns create a more suitable environment for education. Cebu, which offers both a bustling city center and quieter provincial areas, provides an interesting example for this debate. In my view, although small towns offer fewer distractions, larger cities provide broader opportunities and resources for students.

On the one hand, studying in smaller towns has several advantages. Such places usually have a calmer atmosphere, less traffic, and lower living costs. For international students, including those in Cebu’s provincial areas, this means they can focus on their studies without being overwhelmed by urban noise or high expenses. Moreover, living in a smaller community often allows learners to interact more closely with locals, which can create a supportive environment for practicing English.

On the other hand, large cities offer a wide range of facilities and exposure that smaller towns cannot match. Cebu City, for example, has modern language schools, libraries, and convenient transportation. Students can easily access cafes, co-working spaces, and cultural activities that enrich their learning experience. Furthermore, being in a diverse and dynamic environment helps learners prepare for real-world challenges beyond the classroom.

In conclusion, while smaller towns may provide peace and affordability, I believe studying in larger cities like Cebu City ultimately offers greater benefits. The combination of advanced educational facilities and cultural opportunities outweighs the potential drawbacks of a busier lifestyle.

Some people believe that students who study abroad should focus only on their academic goals, while others think maintaining a healthy lifestyle is equally important. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Resposta-modelo

When students go abroad for education, there is often debate about whether their primary focus should be academics or whether maintaining a healthy lifestyle deserves equal attention. Cebu, a popular destination for international students, illustrates both sides of this argument. In my opinion, although academic success is essential, a balanced lifestyle that includes health and well-being is equally important.

On the one hand, prioritizing academics makes sense because studying abroad is usually a major financial and personal investment. Students often go to Cebu with the specific purpose of improving their IELTS score or achieving fluency in English. They may only have a few months, so it seems logical to dedicate most of their time to intensive study sessions, essay writing, and practice tests. For these learners, physical health might appear secondary during their short stay.

On the other hand, neglecting health can negatively affect academic performance. For example, students in Cebu who ignore proper diet or exercise may experience fatigue, stress, or illness, which reduces their ability to concentrate on lessons. In contrast, those who maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating balanced meals, going to the gym, or enjoying outdoor activities like swimming and island-hopping often find themselves more motivated and productive in their studies.

In conclusion, while academic achievement should be a top priority, maintaining good health is equally vital. A student who balances both study and lifestyle is more likely to succeed in IELTS and also enjoy a fulfilling experience abroad.

Resposta-modelo da Task 2 do IELTS Writing (aproximadamente 284 palavras)

Exemplo de questão

Some people argue that globalization has made studying abroad unnecessary because students can access international education online. Others believe studying overseas, such as in Cebu, is still valuable. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Resposta-modelo

Globalization has expanded access to international education through online platforms, leading some to argue that physically studying abroad is no longer necessary. However, others maintain that overseas education continues to provide unique benefits that cannot be replicated online. In my opinion, while online resources are useful, studying abroad remains an invaluable experience.

On the one hand, globalization and digital technology have allowed students to attend virtual lectures from prestigious universities without leaving their country. For instance, IELTS candidates can download practice materials, join webinars, or interact with teachers from across the globe. This convenience saves both time and money, making education more inclusive and accessible. Additionally, students can combine online learning with part-time work or family commitments, which is harder to manage abroad.

On the other hand, overseas education offers immersion and cultural interaction that online learning lacks. Cebu, for example, attracts thousands of international students who benefit not only from intensive IELTS lessons but also from real-life practice in restaurants, shops, and daily conversations. Furthermore, living abroad fosters independence, adaptability, and cross-cultural understanding—skills that are increasingly valuable in today’s globalized job market. These aspects cannot be fully experienced through a computer screen.

In my view, globalization should complement rather than replace overseas study. Online platforms provide excellent support, but studying abroad, particularly in destinations like Cebu, offers a holistic education that includes language, culture, and personal growth.

In conclusion, while globalization has made online education more accessible, overseas learning continues to hold unique advantages that remain essential in a truly globalized world.

Some people believe that governments should provide financial support for students who study abroad, such as in Cebu, while others argue that students should fund their own education. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Resposta-modelo

The question of whether governments should financially support students studying abroad has sparked considerable debate. While some believe that such assistance is necessary to promote equal opportunities, others argue that individuals should bear the cost themselves. In my view, government funding can be beneficial, but it should be offered selectively rather than universally.

On the one hand, government support enables students from less privileged backgrounds to pursue education overseas. Studying in destinations like Cebu, where English courses and IELTS preparation are popular, can be costly when tuition, accommodation, and living expenses are considered. Without financial aid, only wealthy families may afford such opportunities, which would widen social inequality. Moreover, students who receive support often return with improved skills and knowledge, which can benefit their home country’s economy and workforce.

On the other hand, some argue that studying abroad is a personal choice, and therefore students should take responsibility for the expenses. Governments already face financial pressure to provide healthcare, infrastructure, and domestic education. Funding overseas study for all students may not be a fair use of taxpayers’ money, especially if students do not return to contribute to their country after graduation.

In my opinion, the best approach is a balanced one. Governments should provide scholarships or subsidies for talented students who commit to returning and applying their skills at home. This ensures both fairness and long-term national benefit.

In conclusion, while students should take some responsibility for their overseas education, targeted government support is justified when it contributes to national development.

Explicação dos pontos

  • Apresentação do tema: "a legitimidade do apoio governamental"

Some people believe that studying abroad makes young people lose their cultural identity, while others argue it helps them appreciate their own traditions more. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Resposta-modelo

The impact of studying abroad on cultural identity has been a subject of debate. Some argue that students who spend time overseas may lose touch with their own traditions, while others claim such experiences actually strengthen their appreciation of their heritage. In my view, studying abroad, such as in Cebu, broadens cultural understanding and ultimately deepens respect for one’s own identity.

On the one hand, critics suggest that international education can weaken cultural ties. Students may adopt foreign habits, values, and lifestyles while neglecting their native customs. For example, a Japanese student in Cebu might become accustomed to speaking English daily, eating local Filipino food, and celebrating foreign festivals. Over time, these influences might lead to a diminished connection with their own traditions.

On the other hand, many students find that living abroad heightens their awareness of their culture. When surrounded by different customs, they often begin to reflect on and appreciate their own heritage more deeply. A Korean student in Cebu, for instance, may realize the uniqueness of Korean traditions while sharing them with classmates from Japan, Taiwan, or Vietnam. This exchange fosters pride in their cultural background and creates opportunities for cross-cultural learning.

In my opinion, studying abroad enriches rather than diminishes cultural identity. By experiencing diversity, students learn to value both other traditions and their own.

In conclusion, although overseas study may expose students to new lifestyles, it ultimately reinforces rather than erases cultural identity.

  • Conclusão: o intercâmbio reforça a identidade cultural

Resposta-modelo da Task 2 do IELTS Writing (aproximadamente 283 palavras)

Exemplo de questão

Some people believe that studying abroad mainly benefits students’ personal growth, while others argue that its primary advantage is improved career prospects. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Resposta-modelo

Studying abroad has long been associated with a wide range of benefits. While some argue that the most significant outcome is personal development, others emphasize the career advantages gained from such experiences. In my opinion, overseas education, such as studying in Cebu, provides both personal and professional benefits, but the impact on career prospects tends to be more substantial in the long run.

On the one hand, many students experience remarkable personal growth while studying abroad. In Cebu, for instance, learners often live away from their families for the first time, which encourages independence and responsibility. They also interact with peers from diverse cultural backgrounds, developing communication skills, adaptability, and confidence. These qualities are valuable not only for academic success but also for overall personal maturity.

On the other hand, the career benefits of studying abroad are undeniable. Employers increasingly value candidates with international experience, language proficiency, and cross-cultural competence. A Japanese or Korean student who has studied IELTS in Cebu, for example, may gain a competitive edge in applying for multinational companies or positions that require English fluency. Furthermore, living in a foreign environment demonstrates resilience and problem-solving skills—traits highly sought after in the global job market.

In my view, while personal growth is an important aspect of studying abroad, its greatest long-term value lies in enhanced career opportunities. The combination of improved language skills and global perspectives directly contributes to employability and professional success.

In conclusion, studying abroad promotes both personal and career development, but its primary benefit is the lasting impact on future job prospects.

Some people believe that governments should spend more on policing and security to reduce crime, while others argue that investing in education, such as study-abroad opportunities in Cebu, is a more effective solution. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Resposta-modelo

The question of how best to reduce crime has long been debated. While some believe governments should allocate greater resources to law enforcement, others argue that education, including overseas study programs, offers a more sustainable solution. In my opinion, although policing is necessary, investing in education is ultimately more effective for long-term crime prevention.

On the one hand, supporters of stronger policing argue that immediate safety requires visible enforcement. Increased police presence, stricter laws, and advanced security systems can deter criminal activity. For example, in many urban areas, surveillance cameras and community patrols have significantly reduced theft and violence. Without these measures, society might face rising insecurity, making daily life more difficult for citizens.

On the other hand, education addresses the root causes of crime. By providing young people with better opportunities, governments can reduce unemployment and social inequality—two major drivers of criminal behavior. Study-abroad programs, such as those in Cebu, equip students with language skills, global perspectives, and career opportunities that steer them away from illegal activities. In this way, education not only improves individual futures but also contributes to safer communities.

In my view, a balanced approach is necessary, but the emphasis should be on education. While policing provides short-term protection, education creates long-term solutions by empowering individuals and reducing the likelihood of crime.

In conclusion, both policing and education play vital roles in reducing crime, but greater investment in education is the key to sustainable safety.
