3D is partnering with Kanata Academy, a Canadian High School to launch the online Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) Program. This program is suitable for students below 21 years old, currently home-schooled or enrolled in a high school in their home country, but planning to apply for world renowned universities around the world such as Harvard University, Stanford University, University of Toronto, Queen’s University, Cambridge University, Oxford University, just to name a few.

International Recognition of OSSD

In order to apply for these universities, students need to enroll into an internationally recognized university preparation program such as IB, SAT, Cambridge “A” Level, etc. Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is a program on par with these high school pathway programs, only more innovative.

Starting in Grade 11, students must pick their Pathway for University and then choose the relevant Course Package, also known as the Pre-University program.

The following requirements must be successfully completed in order to obtain an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD):

  • 1. 30 credits (1 module/subject = 1 credit) including 18 compulsory credits and 12 optional credits* – 8 credits each to be obtained in grade 9 to 11, and 6 credits to be obtained in grade 12.
  • 2. 40 hours of community involvement  (10 hours per grade)
  • 3. Successful completion of the EQAO Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) or the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OSSLC)

It might look complicated at the first glance. However, Kanata Academy had designed a Course Selection Guide for students in each grade.

Grade 9 & 10 Course Selection Guide

Grade 9 & 10 are known as the lower high school grades where the main focus is helping the students to discover their interest and talent as they step into their teenage prime years. Students study 8 subjects each grade. English, Math, Science, History, Geography, Careers and Civics, Arts, Physical Education, and French are compulsory modules for the OSSD. Students can choose to follow the Kanata Academy Curriculum. If students are confident with their knowledge obtained from the high school in their home countries, they can also choose to challenge the credit by taking the examination straight.

Kanata Academy believes that computer science and IT knowledge is the foundation of the 21st century education. Hence, Exploring Technologies with coding and computer science modules are packaged into the high school program.

Grade 11 & 12 Course Selection Guide

Starting in Grade 11 (Pre-University), students must pick their Pathway for University and then choose the relevant Course Package. Students study 8 modules in Grade 11.

In Grade 12, students study on 6 modules to strengthen their knowledge. Most of their energy will be spent  on passing the exams, getting necessary certificates such as SAT/IELTS / TOEFL (In some countries, these English exams are exempted with OSSD certificates) and apply for the university. Kanata Academy will also help the students to prepare for the University Application for Canadian Top Universities through the local express Canadian Channel 101.
